Noma, or cancrum oris, is a devastating gangrenous condition that develops in the mouth and ravages the facial tissue. Its causes are mainly lack of hygiene and malnutrition. What we know is that discerned in time, and with the antibiotic in these very young children yet, noma heal in its first week. Without treatment, particularly in rural areas, Noma is fatal in 80% of cases and leaves survivors with intolerable mutilation.
